Weather is still pretty nasty, but at least the dolphin action is on the upswing. 4-10 dolphin bites a day again and maybe even a shot at a sail. Looking forward to getting a nice stretch of weather and getting in on the tuna action. Lost 2 corner trips already this week. The only good thing, is the tuna should be around till Sept.
The dolphin bite slowed down a little this past week after the blow, but the bottom fishing is hanging in there. Good action for sea bass, b liners, lanes and mutton snapper is taking place now and cobia are hanging on the reefs too. Amberjack fishing is not great, but there are a few around. Looking forward to the dolphin action picking back up, there are a ton around. We've also seen some kingfish the last few trips and Bonita have been keeping us busy too. For the most part the last couple of weeks have provided great dolphin action. Tom Nagle had a trip a couple days ago where we kept 10 dolphin up to 35 lbs and let another 10 or so go. Fred Church had a fly fishing charter that ended with jumping a white marlin off and seeing 100s of dolphin swimming around he boat. The biggest one we caught on fly was 30 pounds in the dot. Jerry B along with multiple other local Stuart fishing charters had exceptional dolphin action as well.
The 2014 Stuart Fl. fishing charter schedule for us at Off the Chain fishing charters has been very busy and provided some memorable days so far this year. From fishing with greats like Michael Jordan, Big D from the 69-74 globetrotters and Luke Donald, to tv stars like Rodger Cook and shooting a how to Permit Fishing video with RJ Boyle and being elected to the Our Florida Reefs Program to represent the charter fishing community. The last few trips have been extremely productive producing great catches of dolphin, cobia and kingfish. The corner has been pretty good too with yellowfin tuna, blue marlin and lots of dolphin. Congratulations to Fred Church for hooking multiple and releasing a 35 lb atlantic sailfish on fly. He also caught a 30 lb. dolphin along with many others in the 20 pound range. He also hooked and jumped off a white marlin on fly. Grouper season opens up May 1st so we are looking forward to that, but till then, we will have to focus on the great trolling action we are having along with our long range florida tuna charters, they are Off the Chain. Sorry for the lack of reports, we are starting up a new site. Checkout www.stuartflcharters.com
Today I had Micheal B. from Penn / Long Island. Our target species on todays fishing charter were sailfish, but with flat calm seas and slow sail action yesterday, it was pretty obvious early on that the sail bite was going to be less then what we had hoped for. We gave it our best shot though and hit a number of proven sailfish areas with no success. We did have plenty of Bonita action throughout the day and excellent results when we dropped baits down to the bottom for grouper and amberjacks. Tons of bait has pushed down to us now, and for the first time this season there is something for the sails to eat when they come back. The North winds tomorrow could really get things going.
